Student Training

To ensure students know their rights and responsibilities, students are required to complete Title IX training once a year, with specialized additional trainings also offered for specific student populations. Title IX training for all currently enrolled students and specific populations of students is required by Attachment G of the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy.

The required annual training is offered via Canvas. Please view instructions for accessing the Canvas training course below.

Canvas Training

All students must complete an online training within the first few weeks of starting class each academic year. This includes all first-time freshmen, transfer students, returning students, international students, graduate students, and extended education students. The annual training requirement applies to every CSUF student enrolled in at least one academic course across all academic programs regardless of whether their classes are online, in person, or hybrid.

There are separate Title IX training courses for returning students and new students. All enrolled students will be assigned the appropriate self-paced course in Canvas.

Failure to complete the annual training on Canvas by the assigned deadline will result in a registration hold placed on students’ accounts.

How to Access Your Title IX Training on Canvas

Below are step-by-step instructions for completing your assigned Title IX training in Canvas:

  1. Log into your Student Portal using your CSUF username and password.
  2. Navigate to the left side fo the page under "Apps" to locate the Canvas app, or use the search bar to find it.
  3. Click on the Canvas app to log in to Canvas.
  4. Once you are logged in to Canvas, you should see a Title IX Training course tile on your Dashboard. The course will be titled with the current semester, year, and student status, either "New" or "Returning."
  5. Click on the course and navigate to the Modules using the navigation pane on the left side of the screen.
  6. Locate "Module 1: Course Orientation." Click on "Start Here: Course Orientation" to get started.
  7. Complete the interactive course. There will be videos with embedded quiz questions. You must earn a cumulative score of at least 80% across all video quizzes to successfully complete the course.

Training Deadline

Students should complete the assigned training as soon as possible and by the date listed in their assigned Title IX Training Canvas page.

A registration hold will be placed on the accounts of students who do not complete the training by the assigned deadline. This type of hold prevents changes to class schedules and class registration, and it cannot be lifted until after the successful completion of the assigned Title IX training with a cumulative score of 80% or higher.

Technical Difficulties and Canvas Support

If you are experiencing issues with your assigned Canvas course, please call the Canvas support hotline at 855-302-7528 or chat with Canvas support by clicking the "Help" button in the blue left-hand navigation bar from within Canvas.

Alternative Training Option

Any student who finds the content of the assigned online course difficult or upsetting has the opportunity to request an alternative format for the training, which can be conducted via Zoom, in person, over the phone, or through another medium that best fits the student's needs.

The alternative format takes the same amount of time to complete as the self-paced course and must be scheduled with a member of the Office for Civil Rights and Equity.

To request to join an alternative format Zoom webinar for the annual Title IX student training, please email titleixtraining@fullerton.edu before your training deadline.

Please note: The alternative format is offered out of consideration for the sensitive course content, but it is not designed as a replacement for students having technical difficulties. Canvas Support offers tech help at 855-302-7528.
