2016-2017 Art 4 Health Exhibition

The California State University, Fullerton Student Wellness and the College of the Arts announce Art 4 Health, an annual two-dimensional art exhibit by Cal State Fullerton students, alumni, faculty and staff. Selected works will be on display in Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services and Disability Support Services from August 2016 to June 2017.

Eligibility

All entries must be the original works of art, created at any time by CSUF students, alumni, faculty or staff, from any of the university's colleges.

Theme

Windows to Wellness” is the theme for this year’s show. Your interpretation of that theme related to your artwork should be stated on the application form.

Rules of Entry

  1. There is no entry fee.
  2. The maximum number of submissions is five.
  3. Two-dimensional work in all media, including, but not limited to: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Mixed Media, Collage, and Computer-generated imagery.
  4. Size is limited to 60 inches in any direction, including frame.
  5. In addition to the completion of an application, artists must electronically attach digital images that accurately represent the creative work for the jury process.
  6. Digital images must be JPEG and a minimum of 75 dpi.
  7. Each digital file must be named accordingly: The artist's first initial, last name and item number as reflected on the Entry Information Form. Example: John Doe = JDoe1, JDoe2, JDoe3.
  8. Do not mail or deliver original artwork for the jury process.
  9. Artists must include measurements and approximate weight of each submission on the application form.
  10. Artists must include the replacement value of each submission (not retail value).
  11. Artist's completed/submitted application, including digital files, must be received by midnight of the deadline, May 15, 2016.
  12. If accepted, the work must be delivered at the times indicated. Likewise, at the close of exhibition, artwork must be picked up at the times indicated.
  13. In the event that the artwork is not picked up by September 1, 2017, the CSUF Student Wellness will consider the work to have been abandoned. Such work will become the property of the CSUF Student Wellness and will be used as it deems appropriate.
  14. Any special installation instructions must be provided with the delivery of the artwork. Without such instruction, the CSUF Student Wellness assumes no responsibility for damages during installation.
  15. The CSUF Student Wellness is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misdirected entries. 
  16. Your entry acknowledges acceptance of the rules of entry.

Criteria and Judging

The panel of judges will be professional art educators, practicing artists, a representative from Student Wellness, and a University representative. Works will be selected on the basis of original concept, expressive use of media, artistic excellence, and representation of the theme “Windows to Wellness . $200 will be awarded to the student whose artwork is determined to be the “Best of Show, 1st Place.”  $100 will be awarded to the student whose artwork is determined to be the “Best of Show, 2nd Place. The alumni winner receives a 3-month solo show in the TSU Chapman gallery. The faculty/staff winner receives a 2-month solo show in the TSU Chapman gallery.

Auction/Sales Option

Artists who would like to auction/sell their artwork will be given that opportunity. A decision about auctioning/selling the artwork does not need to be made until after the jury process. Artists are under no obligation to participate in the auction/sale. Those who do participate will receive 60 percent of the auction/sale price. The remaining 40 percent of the auction/sale price goes toward the Art 4 Health program in order to continue funding the program. More information will be provided after the jury process.

Delivery

  1. Artwork accepted for the exhibition must be received at the CSUF Student Health and Counseling Center, hand-delivery preferred, before the deadline, to be announced. Although the delivery process will be during business hours in the month of June, specific dates for delivery will be provided after the jury process. 
  2. If work is shipped, artist must prepay FedEx for return shipping in reusable container.

Pick Up

  1. Exhibited work will be available for pick up in June 2017.
  2. Shipped work will be returned in the original package via FedEx prepaid by the artist.

Media and Subjects Accepted

  1. Artist will be notified of the jury results via the contact information (e-mail address) on their application approximately the last two weeks of May or early June, and will then receive special instructions regarding packaging, shipping, delivery, pick-up, insurance, and the Exhibit Agreement.
  2. Media must be framed (including matting, where applicable). Please remove any wires, clips, and D-rings. Security hardware will be installed by Student Wellness for hanging in the Student Health and Counseling Center.
  3. Artists are responsible for all packing, shipping, and in-transit insurance costs.
  4. Accepted work will remain the responsibility of the CSUF Student Wellness for the duration of the exhibit. During that period, each piece will be insured by CSUF Student Wellness for the same amount as is indicated as the "replacement value" on the entry form.
  5. Coverage applies only during the duration of the exhibition. Artwork must remain installed until pick-up in June 2017.

Artist Checklist

  1. Read and adhere to Eligibility and Rules of Entry.
  2. Complete the online application.
  3. Prepare and e-mail up to five digital files by midnight, May 15, 2016.
  4. If selected, be ready to deliver your art to Student Wellness in June 2016.
