Health Insurance Requirement
The California State University (CSU) system requires that every international student purchase and maintain adequate health insurance coverage during their period of enrollment at CSU Fullerton. Effective Fall 2010 semester, all F-1 visa and J-1 visa students admitted to Cal State University Fullerton are required to purchase mandatory health insurance policy administered by Wells Fargo Student Insurance Services. Certain groups of students e.g. government sponsored students may be exempted from purchasing this policy if they provide adequate documentation from their government that they are fully-sponsored for tuition, housing, health insurance and other incidentals.
The cost for this insurance program includes a $20 administrative service fee. This fee supports the processing of student health insurance records information, funding of scholarships, as well as program operations as deemed necessary by the Office of International Programs.
CSUF offers this insurance plan as a means of guaranteeing that minimum coverage for international students is met. Students, however, may seek additional coverage if they so choose. Because participation in this insurance plan is mandatory for international students attending CSUF, students receive a discounted rate. CSUF regularly reviews rates to ensure that students are receiving a competitive rate for a quality insurance product.
Services provided by Student Health and Counseling Center
As a registered student at Cal State Fullerton, you are eligible for health care at the Student Health and Counseling Center (SHCC). The services of the physicians, nurses and other professional staff of Health Center are supported by a portion of the fees you pay to the university. This means that there is no charge (or minimal charge) for use of the basic care given at the Student Health Center. Also, there are no fees for counseling services provided by professional counselors in our Counseling and Psychological Services office.
Although basic health care is provided by and available at the CSUF Student Health Center, major illness and injury, as well as certain conditions requiring a specialist or hospitalization, may be beyond their scope of service. Please check the health care plan below for the list of providers.
