Bias Incident Notification
Date: 9/27/2024 19:15:58
On September 26, 2024 the Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) team was made aware of an incident that occurred within our community involving our residents.
Witnesses reported racial slurs being shouted from Elm towards Black identified residents.
Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) is committed to empower, educate, and activate our residential community to challenge prejudice, promote justice, and embrace differences. CSU Fullerton and HRE stand in solidarity with our students with marginalized identities and will always condemn all forms of harassment and discrimination.
As a reminder, all residents made a commitment to maintaining an equitable and inclusive environment when they signed their license agreement. Per the license agreement, “living on campus is a privilege and not a right. Participation in acts of bias, hate, discrimination, harassment, etc. could result in removal from the student housing community.”
HRE is following up with the impacted residents and an investigation is on-going. If found responsible, students will be held accountable through the University’s conduct process.
Housing and Residential Engagement will continue to educate, inform and support our community. CAPS and DIRC will be hosting space for our community called Commitment to Community Well-being . More information of dates and times will be shared with the community soon. We encourage those impacted or interested in working towards an anti-racist community to join us to reflect, heal and discuss actions steps towards creating a more inclusive CSU Fullerton campus.
In addition, HRE plans to hold mandatory meetings with residents of Elm, to reiterate our DEI statement and the commitment of maintaining an equitable and inclusive environment. There will be meetings offered on different days and times for ease of accessibility. Residents who fail to attend the mandatory meeting will be referred to the conduct process. More information of dates and times will be shared with the community soon.
In addition please find support if needed at:
- CAPS (657) 278-3040. Please indicate that you are from student housing and you will receive priority via the crisis counselor on call.
- Our Housing and Residential Engagement Staff are also available to help during business hours - (657) 278-2168; after hours - (714) 681-6918.
- If you see or have any information to report on incidents of bias, discrimination or harassment, you can inform us at report.fullerton.edu
- If you have information that would be helpful in this investigation, please contact UPD at (657) 278-2515
It is disheartening that this situation occurred and has caused harm to our HRE community. We encourage you all to combat these acts of hate and bias and strive to create a community that is inclusive and fosters a sense of belonging.
For further assistance outside of our business hours, contact our Resident Advisors On Duty at (714) 681-6918.

Date: 8/27/2024 14:23
We hope this message finds you well. We want to inform you of an upcoming evacuation drill on {date} from {time-start} to {time-end}. This drill is a crucial part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of our community in case of emergencies. All residents must evacuate the housing buildings during the drill and proceed to designated evacuation sites based on location. Here are the evacuation sites for each area:

Please note that any resident not complying with the evacuation instructions will be documented and referred to the Housing and Residential Engagement conduct process.
For anyone with an ADA accommodation or Emotional Support Animal (ESA), we strongly advise planning ahead of the evacuation drill to ensure your safety and well-being during the exercise. Unregistered Student Organization Solicitation
Date: 8/23/2024 16:12:07
Housing Move-In is one the great traditions on college campuses. As you saw many of our campus partners were present to greet you including CSUF Police Department (UPD), Pollak Library, Information Technology (thanks for the free boba!) and Athletics (loved that shaved ice). In addition, some of our registered student organizations including Resident Student Association (RSA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), hosted tables. In two weeks, Student Life and Leadership (another campus partner who was at Move-in), will host Discoverfest at the Intramural Fields. This is a great opportunity for you to meet and talk with our registered student organizations about becoming a member. There will be over 350+ student clubs and organization including CSUF’s affiliated fraternities and sororities. Find out more information about Discoverfest here. For a list of the CSUF’s affiliated fraternities and sororities, please visit this link. We hope you will attend.
Our registered student organizations at CSUF are amazing and this is why we only allow registered student organizations to engage with our residents. If an unregistered organization interacted with you, please remember that they are not affiliated with the university for a reason. You can review organizations that are no longer affiliated with the university here. Please note, unsanctioned activities and events may be taking place off campus throughout the weekend. Attendance to these events could result in a student conduct process, and we encourage students to attend sanctioned campus activities and events instead.
If you had a concerning interaction with any unregistered organization members during your move-in, please submit a student conduct referral here or speak to your resident advisor.
If you feel that you were inappropriately approached by a student or organization, please make sure to reach out to the following departments for support.
Counseling & Psychological Services
Additionally, your resident advisor or Community Coordinator are also available to assist.
Thank you,
Housing and Residential Engagement Team

Manzanita only: Important Reminder Regarding Study Room Etiquette
Date: 10/22/2024 08:24:42
I hope this message finds you well. As we are in the midst of midterms, I want to take a moment to address some recent concerns regarding the use of our community study rooms in Manzanita. With only three study rooms for four floors of residents, it's important that we all do our part to ensure these spaces are equitably available for everyone.
Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:
Share Our Community Spaces:
The study rooms are a shared resource, and it's essential that we use them in a way that allows everyone access. If you're in a study room for an extended period, please be mindful of others who may also need to use the space. Consider setting time limits for yourself during busy hours so everyone has a chance to benefit from these rooms.
Respect Others’ Belongings:
If you come across personal belongings in the study rooms, please do not move or touch them without the owner's permission. It's important to respect your neighbors' belongings, as we would hope they would respect ours.
Don’t Leave Items Unattended:
While it's tempting to leave your books, laptops, or other belongings in a room to "hold" your spot, we ask that you refrain from doing so unless you are actively in the room using it. Leaving personal effects unattended for long periods can prevent others from using the space and creates frustration.
Be Time-Conscious:
Please be mindful of how long you're using the study rooms, especially during peak study times. If others are waiting or if the room has been in use for several hours, it’s a good practice to offer to wrap up your session or invite them to join you.
Share the Space:
Lastly, don’t hesitate to ask others if you can share the room, and be willing to share if someone asks you. The rooms are here for all of us, and working alongside your peers can often be a great way to stay motivated!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to create a respectful and equitable environment in our community spaces. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

- Location: Demolition will begin with the most North/Eastern building, Valencia Hall, and proceed towards Sycamore Hall, with Cypress Hall being demolished last.
- Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No noise will be allowed prior to 7:00 a.m.
-
Noise Levels:
- Existing noise levels have been measured with a portable decibel meter, ranging from 45.5 to 68.1 dB.
- Noise levels will be monitored periodically. If readings increase by 25% (approximately 85 dB), the activity will be halted and assessed for noise reduction measures.
- The use of demolition processors will be prioritized to reduce noise. If breakers are needed for larger pieces of concrete, they will be used as far North as possible to minimize impact.
- Dust Control: Fire hoses will be used to continuously spray the building during demolition to control dust.
Impact on Willow Apartment Residents: Residents in the North side rooms of the Willow building will experience the most exposure to demolition noise. We are committed to making this process as smooth as possible and will take all necessary measures to reduce the noise and dust.
We have a limited number of earplugs and masks available at the Holly Mailroom which can be picked up during hours of operations.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation,
The Housing and Residential Engagement Team
