I returned to full time studies, leaving a successful career, when I was 29. I am now 32. I will soon have two small children and I have been married for almost 10 years. I still can't believe I am going to medical school. I was one of the most unlikely candidates you can imagine when I started out.
DO isn't a back-up plan for me. I enjoy the idea that I can perform more treatments without medication than can an MD. I also love the idea of treating someone with my hands. That being said, cancer probably isn't going to be cured without medication and I appreciate that we can provide any treatment necessary for our patients. In the world of sick people, I tend to think that being a DO will make me a better doc than had I become an MD. I also believe that the DO profession is misunderstood and I want to work with the AOA to change the DO image. When I retire I don't want to hear "what is a DO?"
