EPOCHS, Enhancing Post-baccalaureate Opportunities at CSUF for Hispanic Students, is a federal grant awarded to the Office of Graduate Studies by the U.S. Department of Education, whose purpose is to support achievement among disadvantaged post-baccalaureate students.

As part of EPOCHS, grant money is awarded to CSUF graduate program students to fund research activities such as research travel for data collection and/or travel to actively participate in conferences (i.e. presenter, panelist, performer, poster submittal, assistant, and/or volunteer). Grant funds can also be used to purchase research materials (i.e. lab supplies). Travel is only allowed in the Continental U.S.; International travel cannot be funded. Application submissions for past travel are allowed, if travel occurred within 60 days of the application deadline. Grant award funds are disbursed as reimbursements; receipts will have to be submitted for reimbursement after expenditures have been completed.

Number Awarded: Varies

Dollar Amount: Grant awards will average from $100-$400. It is unlikely that the funds granted through this program will cover the entire cost of the proposed expenses. Students usually receive half of their proposed expenditures, up to $400.

Deadline: December 10th, February 18th, and April 15th (Graduate Studies Office, MH-112, 5PM)

Process for Awarding: Students must submit an application form, a personal statement answering 4 questions listed on the application form, a confidential letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and a resume. Applications are reviewed to confirm eligibility requirements are met. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a CSUF graduate program, have a minimum 3.00 Graduate GPA, and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Funds are awarded based on stated purpose for the funds, demonstrated hardship/challenges faced, and the budget presented.
