Frequent Testing and Motivation Enhancement in Introductory Psychology: A Dual-Pronged Approach to Address the Achievement Gap of Underrepresented Students and Improve Graduation Rates

Project Lead: Christine Scher

This project will implement two promising strategies, frequent testing with immediate feedback and academic motivation enhancement, to decrease the consistent achievement gap of underrepresented students in Introductory Psychology and increase the pass rates and GPAs of all students in this course. The dual-pronged approach is expected to result in 1) no difference in GPA or pass rates between underrepresented and non-underrepresented students and 2) higher GPAs and pass rates for all students compared to previous semesters. This project is expected to help meet GI 2025 goals by increasing equity and decreasing time to graduation. Further, it supports the missions of GI 2025 Work Groups 6 (Bottlenecks) and 7 (High-Impact Practices).
