Growing Confidence Through Environmental Action
When the Fullerton Arboretum’s California native meadow became overgrown with weeds, Alexandra Lewandowski went to work, clearing the weeds and restoring a section of the 26-acre botanical garden.
Empowered by the Engaging Environmental Experiences program at Cal State Fullerton, she designed an industry-standard restoration plan for future volunteers and developed social media posts to educate the public about native and invasive plants.
Through the experience, Lewandowski found her confidence and niche in restoring California native plants.
As an environmental studies graduate, she hopes to educate others about the effects of climate change on human health, safety and wellness — and inspire them to take action by restoring one garden at a time.
“I chose environmental studies because I want to make a difference.”
