Professor of Electrical Engineering

Biography

Dr. Shiva received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Tehran University. He received his Master's degree in Communications and his Ph.D. (1982) in Digital Signal Processing from the University of Southern California (USC). His research interests are in digital signal processing, seismic data processing, and simulations and modeling of digital systems. Dr. Shiva has published many research papers. He has received grants from U.S. Army Missile Command, U.S. Army CECOM Signals Warfare, Lockheed Martin, and Hughes.

Dr. Shiva has been the leader of the Electrical Engineering Department (Initially as Department Head and later as Department Chair) from August 2001 to December 2013. This is the longest term for a chair in the history of ECS. During his tenure as the department leader, he has been credited with many accomplishments including two successful ABET accreditation visits in 2002 and 2008.

Dr. Shiva has received several awards and recognitions for his outstanding teaching and services. Dr. Shiva teaches courses in design of digital filters, digital signal processing, linear circuits, linear algebra, probability theory, electrical machines, and numerical analysis.
