Graduate Writing Requirements

Students working toward a MSCE degree are required to demonstrate writing ability commensurate with the baccalaureate degree. This requirement should be met by successfully completing one of the following:

  • By having met the upper-division writing requirement during the undergraduate program at any CSU campus
  • By passing the Examination in Writing Proficiency http://www.fullerton.edu/testing/ewp/
  • By scoring a minimum of 4.0 on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Writing Assessment Test
  • By having passed with a grade of C (2.0) or better in an upper-division writing course at another university equivalent to a course that meets the CSUF undergraduate writing requirement. Such petitions must be approved by the University Committee on Writing Proficiency.
  • By passing with a grade of C (2.0) or better ENGL 301 or ENGL 360 or TESL 301
  • By passing with a grade of C (2.0) or better a graduate-level EGCE course certified by the University as meeting the writing requirement. Students must confirm with the graduate advisor or department chair the offering of such EGCE course as they change from semester to semester.
