Employees

What is the Employee Civil Rights and Equity Ambassador Program?

The Civil Rights and Equity Employee Ambassador program is a professional development opportunity for all CSUF employees to learn more about campus resources related to Title IX and equity issues on campus. Program participants will build skills to support colleagues and students who may be impacted by issues such as sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and harassment and discrimination based on a protected status. Participants will also learn introductory principles for creating more inclusive spaces. The goal of the program is for Civil Rights and Equity Employee Ambassadors to feel prepared to offer accurate information to colleagues and students about everyone’s rights and options at CSUF related to the Office for Civil Rights and Equity.

What does the program entail?

Successful completion of the program requires attendance at two days of two-hour sessions each day. Refreshments and coffee are provided for each day’s session.

How do I become a Civil Rights and Equity Ambassador?

You can sign up for the upcoming cohort on our Events page.

Students

What is the Student Civil Rights and Equity Ambassador Program?

The Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassador program is a leadership program for currently enrolled student members of registered student organizations, athletics teams, and departments. The program provides training and practical skills for selected students to serve as a source of information and support for their organization or social circle.

The curriculum is designed specifically for CSUF students to help them learn about CSU policy, services provided by CSUF’s Office for Civil Rights and Equity and other relevant campus resources, and how they can make a positive difference to promote greater gender equity on campus. The curriculum is separated into two intentional, 1.5-hour sessions with scaffolded learning, and participants build upon their knowledge and skills over two weeks.

The program seeks to create and strengthen a growing network of caring, informed students who can offer accurate information to peers about everyone’s rights and options at CSUF related to Office for Civil Rights and Equity.

We make sure to clarify that becoming Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassadors does not change students’ roles on campus or give them any additional responsibilities or authority.

What does the program entail?

Selected students complete a minimum of 3 hours of training to become certified Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassadors so they may serve as a source of information and support for their organization or social circle related to Title IX and inclusivity based on identity and Protected Status.

After completing the first three hours, newly certified Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassadors can elect to continue their instruction by taking advantage of Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassador “2.0” sessions. These “2.0” sessions are opportunities for already-certified Ambassadors to further expand their knowledge on specific topics related to identifying, preventing, and supporting the reporting of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and discrimination based on a Protected Status.

The “2.0” extension program is provided in both the Fall and Spring semesters, and certified Civil Rights and Equity Student Ambassadors are provided a list of eligible workshops to attend in order to complete “2.0” sessions.

How do I apply?

Students must complete a Qualtrics application and be accepted into the program.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student. Preference is given to currently enrolled students who are involved on campus in one of the following ways:
    • involved in a student club or organization
    • involved in an Athletic team
    • work on campus
    • live on campus
    • volunteer on campus
    • involved in a campus resource center (EOP, DIRC, VRC, TAPP, etc.)
    • involved in a scholars/scholarship program, leadership program, or academic department
  • Must be an enrolled student for the current semester and planning to be enrolled the following semester
  • Affirm that training dates/times work for them (we offer each session twice per week and applicants must select one and a half hours each week for two weeks that they can attend)
  • Submit one brief paragraph explaining why they want to become an Ambassador and how they will utilize the training with their organization or team.

We try to admit a diverse group of students who represent a wide array of student organizations, teams, and departments.

We also give preference to student applicants who can commit to 3 hours of “2.0” sessions.
