Requesting Letters of Recommendation
You will need to request between two to four letters of recommendation, depending on the institution.
CHOOSING YOUR RECOMMENDERS
Only make requests to individuals that will be willing and able to provide strong letters for you. Letters of recommendation should be requested from professors, advisors, employers or other individuals who are familiar with your work, undergraduate preparation, commitment, motivation, and/or potential. Select people with whom you have a positive relationship and who view your work positively.
TIMING
Be sure to allow plenty of time from those you are requesting letters. Ask for a letter of recommendation
at least one month in advance.
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS
Provide your recommenders with the following to give them an overview of your qualifications:
- Resume/CV
- Statement of purpose draft
- Career goals outline
- Instructions on submission of letter of recommendation to the institution
