Chapter News
The Road to Omaha Begins Here! Perfect Spring weather set the stage for Opening Day of Titan Baseball’s 38th season on February 15. Sixty of Tuffy’s biggest baseball fans gathered at the Golleher Alumni House for a Pre-Game Tailgate hosted by the Hispanic-Latino and Business Titans Alumni Chapters. Guests enjoyed food, fun, giveaways and two special guests! Assistant Coach Mike Kirby left warm-up to spend quality-time with Alumni supporters and give them an early preview of the Four-Time College World Series Champions upcoming season. Coach Kirby also shared stories from practice and even held an impromptu Q&A Session! In addition, CSUF’s newly appointed Athletic Director, Jim Donovan paid a surprise visit to the event; he spoke to the group about his background and the importance of elevating Titan Athletics to a national level that reflects the caliber of sports programing on campus. The tailgate was truly a community event and was even featured in the Orange County Register!
Joint Fundraiser
On Sunday, February 19 the Hispanic-Latino and Business Finance Alumni Chapters held a joint fundraiser at Round Table Pizza in Fullerton. The event raised money for future chapter outreach and events. While the event was all-day, 20 Titans arrived in the early evening to watch the Lakers/Suns basketball game together. Hispanic-Latino Chapter President Dorissa Martinez ’01 commented, “Round Table has been a staple within the Titan community for years, so hosting a fundraiser there is a natural fit; that, coupled with the support of our loyal alumni chapter members is the recipe for a successful event!” In addition, all attendees were entered into an opportunity drawing; winners were: Alfonzo Herrera ’11, Mel Brown ’08 and Debbie Regius ’98.
A Slice of New York City at the Golleher Alumni House
Alumni and guests gathered at the Golleher Alumni House to see it transformed to New York City for the the OC ♥ NYC Alumni Networking Event hosted by the College of Communications and the Hispanic/Latino Alumni Chapter on October 6. Before entering the event, attendees "took a ride" in the Cash Cab where they were put to the test with Cal State Fullerton trivia. Correct answers guaranteed Tuffy bucks which were later redeemed for cool Cal State Fullerton prizes. A la New York, pizza pie and cheesecake were served while attendees relaxed to cool urban beats from DJ Julian while cocktails like Cosmopolitans, Appletinis and Manhattans were sipped in the Skyline Lounge. Titan fans also had the special opportunity to take photos with New York Tuffy! The evening also provided an opportunity for alumnus Tony Ortega ’87, ’89 , Editor-in-Chief of The Village Voice to share pearls of wisdom about how he made it in the newspaper industry. His positive experience at Cal State Fullerton and interactions with professors and fellow students made an impact on his path in life and gave him valuable tools for his future goals. View photos.
