Join us as we welcome award-winning author Jeff Beals and learn more about “Goal-Based Networking.”  Networking has never been more important, yet most professionals don’t do a great job of it. The successful professionals are the ones who cut through all the noise in today’s frenzied world and find ways to build trusting relationships with clients, colleagues and persons of influence. Now is the time to get out and meet new people! This session will introduce you to “goal-based networking,” a technique that sharply focuses your communication efforts.  You will learn what to say, when to say it and to whom you should say it.  You will learn how to synthesize social media with traditional networking.  Once you master goal-based networking, your colleagues will be left wondering just how you became so well connected both locally and within your profession.

New Year, New Goals

panelThe College of Communications Alumni Chapter hosted its first fall 2013 event entitled "New Year, New Goals" at the George G. Golleher Alumni House on December 10. Approximately 20 people attended the panel discussion and dessert reception. Panel guest speakers included Dr. Irene Matz, Associate Dean of the CSUF College of Communications; Tanya Salcido, Co-Founder of #LatinaGeeks and former OCRegister and OCMetro writer; Matt Brown, Angels Baseball Team Photographer; and Marie Denee, Owner of the The Curvy Fashionista blog.

The panel provided how-to tips on jumpstarting career searches designed for current students and recent graduates followed by a Q&A session.

At the conclusion of the discussion, attendees were invited to talk with guest panelists on a one-to-one basis, network with others, and enjoy a fruit and dessert reception donated by Marie Callender's and Starbucks. An opportunity drawing was held with gifts provided by CSUF Alumni Association, CSUF College of Communications, and movie tickets from Cinema City Theaters in Anaheim.

 Aloha Fest

The Spring Luau & Aloha Fest was great fun enjoyed by all those who participated. An authentic Hawaiian cuisine was provided by Da Hawaiian Kitchen based out of Huntington Beach, coupled with beautiful Island music by Ka'amea and fabulous Hula and Tahitian dancing by Keanuenue Entertainers. At the conclusion of the entertainment program, the audience was invited to participate in an interactive activity - learning the basics of Tahitian dancing. The luau was sponsored in part by the Business Finance, English Languages & Literatures, Education, and Hispanic/Latino Alumni Chapters.
