The College of Communications Alumni Chapter in collaboration with the Business Titans, Los Maestros and Real Estate & Entrepreneurs Alumni Chapters hosted a Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday, June 8 at the George G. Golleher Alumni House. The event was well-attended by 40 people from various alumni chapters and friends of the university. Games including Texas Hold ‘Em poker, blackjack, craps and roulette were available, as well as a buffet taco/burrito bar. Guests had the option to have their photo taken by a photographer, and music/emcee services were provided by the event’s DJ. Throughout the night, various opportunity drawing prizes, including tickets to the Brea Improv, Knott’s Berry Farm, Speedzone, gift certificates, and gift baskets, were given away to patrons. The event successfully raised $1,152 dollars in support of Alumni Association scholarships.
The College of Communications Alumni Chapter hosted its first fall 2012 mixer at Ruby’s Streamliner Lounge in Orange on October 17. Approximately 26 people attended and alumnus Zack Swire ’03, founder of eGood and president of SWIRE ad agency, was the guest speaker.
Swire spoke on the topic of Social Good and asked the attendees to share their own involvement in charitable activities. Additionally, Swire shared the origin of his advertising agency and his passion for his non-profit, eGood, and the social good movement that empowers the community to support businesses that give at least 3% to causes.
Upon arrival at the venue, attendees were invited to take photographs on the “Red Carpet.” Guests enjoyed a food and fruit buffet and were encouraged to meet other College of COMM alumni.
At this year's Comm Week hosted by a task force of Communications students, the College of Communications Alumni Chapter hosted a Resume Review in coordination with the Career Center's Communications Internship Fair. Dozens of students attended the fair anxious to meet prospective internship sites. Many of them came prepared with their resumes and had them reviewed by one of eight professional Communications alumni who volunteered their time and expertise to the students. The room was full of great energy and the Alumni volunteers were all very impressed with the quality of work that the students presented. We look forward to working with the next Comm Week task force next year, as it always helps keep the College of Communications Chapter focused on our mission of giving back to the current students.
