CalWORKs Guide

Our office will verify all the documents requested by your case manager in order for you to continue to receive your benefits. Once documents have been filled out, signed and stamped we will fax or email your documents to the appropriate person. It is our preference to use email if the case manager allows.

Initial Visit

We encourage all of our new students to schedule a meeting with our CalWORKs staff member before their first semester. At this initial meeting we will gather contact information and assist you in filling out your initial paperwork that you will be provided from your case manager. During this meeting we can fill out your ancillary request and answer any questions you may have about our services or campus.

monthly Visit

Our office does not require you make an appointment for your monthly attendance verification. If available we will complete the form you are provided from your case manager immediately. If we are unavailable, you can drop it off and we will have it completed for you within 24 hours.

Ancillary requests for books, fees and supplies

We have an electronic copy of an Ancillary Report that we are happy to assist you with filling out. If you are asking for pre-payment of books, the earlier you can schedule an appointment with us, the better it will be for your case manager. As soon as you register for classes and the books are posted on the Titan Shop webpage we can fill out the paperwork. If you are wanting to be reimbursed, it is important that you keep all copies of receipts from the books you purchase so that you can turn in the original. Once the semester starts, if there are additional requirements for the class we can submit a second form for those costs. Examples of such items would be calculator, clicker, art supplies, online access to programs, etc. (You will need your syllabus as proof)

 Student Fees

Each semester student fees are posted on the campus website (https://sbs.fullerton.edu/services/fees/TuitionAndCampusFees.php). When completing your ancillary request we will include all the student fees list on the website as they are mandatory and a required payment of all students.  The fees include Student Success, Associated Student Body, Campus Union, Consolidated Course, Health Center, Health Facility, Instructionally Related Activity, Student ID, and Titan Participation. One-time fees that students are required to pay are New Student Orientation Fee (the first semester you attend CSUF) and a Graduation Fee, which is required one year before graduation.

CSUF financial aid disbursements automatically pay all owed monies on a student account prior to student receiving their remaining balance.  https://sbs.fullerton.edu/services/refunds/Default.php

Students do not have an option to opt out of their fees being paid by financial aid. As a CalWORK’s student you are entitled to this money being reimbursed to you under the Ancillary expenses (April 2013 Western Center on Law and Poverty, page 74-75).

 Study Hours

As defined by the CSUF University catalog “each semester unit represents three hours of University work per week”. For lecture classes- one hour of class time needs two hours of out of class study time. For laboratory classes- three hours of in class plus one hour of study outside class.  ( http://catalog.fullerton.edu/content.php?catoid=16&navoid=1868 ) Example: when a student is enrolled in 12 units, they will be in class 12 hours and expected to study 24 hours out of class.

 Summer School

CSUF offers two sessions of summer school. Each session is 4 weeks long and condenses a 16 week course into 4 weeks. Students are in class 4 hours for every unit registered.  If a student is taking one 3 unit class, they will be attending class for 12 hours every week and be required to study 24 hours each week in order to finish the course successfully.

 Internships

If your program requires an internship for graduation you will be required to show documentation (your class syllabus) for the amount of required hours that you need to complete for the semester.  Once the documentation is shown, we will add the hours to your monthly attendance for Other Time required of you.  Hours per week will be determined by the amount of hours required divided by the number of weeks in the semester.  This will give us a per week requirement.

Book Vouchers are not accepted at the CSUF campus book store.  You will need to receive advance payment or be reimbursed for the cost of books.
