Academic Advisement - We provide assistance with course selection and offer advice about graduation requirements. An Individual Graduation Plan is created with an SSS Counselor and then maintained during each mandatory advisement session.
Tutoring - If you need extra help with your course work, your academic counselor will provide referrals for individual and group tutoring including review sessions in select courses and development of study groups.
Equipment and Book Loan – A limited number of laptop computers, graphing and business calculators and textbooks are available to SSS students for loan.
Computer Use – A desktop computer is available for SSS student use in the SSS main office, UH-179.
Workshops and Study Skills Courses - Take advantage of workshop instruction to improve basic skills in reading, writing, math and other subjects, as well as study skills and time management.
Financial Aid Assistance – SSS Program staff assist students in filing their yearly FAFSA paperwork. SSS Counselors work closely with the Office of Financial Aid to provide students with updated information regarding their financial aid status.
SSS Grant Aid – To lessen the financial burden of attending CSUF while increasing the academic success of SSS participants -- the SSS Grant is awarded to active SSS participants who meet additional financial need and academic criteria. Individual grant amounts can range from $400 to $4700.
Fiscal Responsibility – The SSS Program recognizes the importance of money management whether it is as a college student on a limited budget, a recent graduate handling major finances for the first time or as a thriving professional who has a substantial income to properly manage. Your SSS counselor will direct you to services that the SSS program finds valuable to assist students make responsible financial decisions.
Career and Graduate/Professional School Advisement - Whether your goals are planning a career or are pursuing a graduate degree, we can assist with the preparation and application process. The SSS office has GRE, GMAT, and LSAT test prep books that students may check out. Students can also take advantage of conferences, workshops and tours of graduate and professional schools.
