Meet Provost Amir Dabirian, Ph.D.
Dr. Dabirian became the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for California State University, Fullerton, in the Spring of 2023. An educator, first and foremost, Dr. Dabirian has taught numerous courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Marketing, Information Systems and Decision Sciences, Accounting, Computer Science, and Extended Education departments.
As a University Strategic Planning Committee member, Dr. Dabirian helped shape our current and previous strategic plans and spearheaded our High Impact Practices (HIPs) initiative over the past 10 years, making CSUF a leader of HIPs in the California State University system. A strong believer in shared governance, he has served as a 15-term member of the Academic Senate (with 12-terms on the Academic Senate Executive Committee), a 17-term member of the Planning, Resource, and Budget Committee, and as a member of numerous academic senate and university committees, including the Academic Senate General Education Task Force, Arboretum Commission, and the WASC Steering Committee and its subcommittees. As a servant leader, he also volunteers on numerous external advisory boards.
In addition, Dr. Dabirian is an accomplished researcher in Employer Branding and IT Trends and has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He is also an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) column editor for IEEE-IT Professional Magazine. He has served as a principal investigator for many grants, including a $150,000 grant from the College Future Foundation for the “modernization and expansion of the CSUF Faculty Student Success Dashboard.”
Dr. Dabirian is the former Vice President for the Division of Information Technology for CSUF. His vision of technological innovation transformed the university into a model 21st-Century secure and sustainable learning environment. Innovations such as enhanced active learning environments, strategic partnerships, and open-source and cloud-based software utilization have led to a leaner and more efficient infrastructure.
Dr. Dabirian is a two-time alumnus, having earned his undergraduate degree as well as his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Systems and Computer Engineering from CSUF. He also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Economics and Management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
