Index Page

The first page of your website is named index. Some setups use default, home, or some other file name that they have specified, but it's the same process.

We use a file named web.config that tells the internet to look for a file named index (or home, etc.) automatically. When you came to this site, you came to fullerton.edu/ouv4help, not ouv4help/index.php. This helps to create neat and memorable web addresses (URLs). This is also another reason why tab naming is so important.

The first page in each folder/directory should be named index. This first page should be the introduction to the material that will be found in that tab. In our About Us example, the index file would be the introduction and/or mission statement.  Do not link to link to /about/index.php.  To make clean and consitant urls, link directly to the folder, not to the index.php file.

Select the folder and insert to create a link instead of linking to index.php

TIP: Go ahead and try it. click on any of the tabs on this site. You will see the folder name after the site name, but you will not see index.php on the end. You can type in /index.php and the same content will show up.
